Personalised training programmes: are offered to adults at the Caisley Communication Consultancy.
These are designed to develop the clients' potential and to meet occupational performance
criteria. Many of our clients come for development of their vocal skills and for this it
is considered that a private lesson affords a more secure learning environment. Adults have
a clear awareness of their needs because they are already in the market place and recognise
the areas in which they need development. When adults seek public speaking guidance they can
only find classes where they are told what to do. It is only by attending a sequence of lessons
that they can start to change old life-time habits and take on the new style of speaking with
authority.
Public speaking: is essentially a practical skill so although there are many texts available for
the public to read, and CD's for them to play on their PC's, it is only by speaking that they will
gain confidence in sharing their ideas. It is critical that adults discover their own style of delivery
and maximise their own capabilities. Private lessons will allow personal development which will grow
into a self-assurance when there is a listening group before them.
Voice training: is integral to all the work in the Consultancy but of course there is far more opportunity to develop every speaker's voice to its full potential with private coaching.
Group evening lessons: are offered every few months where adults can meet and try their new-found skills
on a supportive listening group. They receive valuable feed-back from like-minded students
also seeking to increase their skills.
External assessment: is available for those students needing proof of achievement levels. Some adults like to take the opportunity to enter for the Public Speaking exams
offered by Speech New Zealand. These may be in the form of graded examinations or Vocational Speaking
exams which focus on the industry in which the candidate operates. These are always conducted in front
of a small listening group to give them experience in audience interaction.
School aged students: sometimes prefer private tuition. There can be enormous
benefits in the support offered by a tutor in a private lesson. This can certainly be arranged but it is
expected that once a term the student will participate in one of the small peer group events so that they can
put their skills in group communication into practice in front of a supportive audience.
The goal: is to increase confidence in sharing ideas with other people and listening
to what they have to say on any given topic. Emphasis is placed on the give-and-take of conversation,
of the synergy that occurs when two or three people are gathered together.
